Access to TSQ Back Issues Now at Wiley Interscience
Instead of Blackwell Synergy
As a member of MSS, you are probably already a Registered User of Blackwell Synergy, and may have received tables of contents, email alerts or other TSQ information through Synergy.
On June 30th, 2008, your registration with Blackwell Synergy will move to Wiley InterScience, due to the merger of Wiley and Blackwell last year; and the subsequent merging of their online journal systems.
Why the change?
This is a first step in the development of a next-generation online publishing platform for Wiley-Blackwell, arriving early 2009, that will bring together the best of Blackwell Synergy and Wiley InterScience and introduce many innovative new features and capabilities. On June 30th, all Blackwell journal content will be joined with all Wiley online content on Wiley InterScience. After that date, users will be able to browse all Wiley-Blackwell journals, together with online books, reference works, databases, protocols and other electronic resources through one integrated service.
Benefits will begin immediately after June 30th:
• One-stop access to a dramatically expanded range of relevant material
• Circa 3 million articles
• 1400 journals
• More than 5000 online books, reference works and databases.
What does this mean for MSS members?
• No action is necessary - active accounts* will be migrated automatically. If you already have a Wiley InterScience account your information from both sites will be combined. [You may be asked to accept new terms and conditions the first time you log in after June 30th.]
• Blackwell Synergy will close at the end of the day on June 27th. During the transition weekend of June 28th and 29th, Wiley InterScience will be unavailable for a period. Look for notes on both websites for more details.
• Any pages you may have bookmarked in Blackwell Synergy will be redirected to the relevant page on Wiley InterScience after June 30th.
So what will be different?
• You will now receive tables of content email alerts from Wiley InterScience, rather than from The Sociological Quarterly.
About the Web-Based Manuscript Submission Process for The Sociological Quarterly
The Sociological Quarterly operates on a web-based submission and peer review system using a program called Manuscript Central. All new manuscript submissions should be made here. This system has proven to be quick and convenient for both authors and reviewers, but computer errors sometimes arise. If you have any difficulties with the online submission system at any stage of the process, please email us and we will address your concern right away.
For Authors
Before continuing, please make sure your manuscript conforms to journal style by consulting the
Author Guidelines. To submit a manuscript to The Sociological Quarterly, authors should go here to upload the manuscript and any other correspondence. Full help and instructions are provided on-screen. As an author, you will be prompted for author and manuscript details and then directed to upload your manuscript file(s). Please remember that we review “blind,” so that neither authors nor reviewers know each others’ identity. To this end, please do not identify yourself, your colleagues or institution within the submitted files; instead, give your details during the submission process.
All correspondence will occur through email. A completed submission is confirmed by email immediately and your paper will then enter the editorial process. Your manuscript will have a unique manuscript number and you can check the progress of your manuscript at any time by returning to Manuscript Central. When a decision is made, revisions can be submitted online, with an opportunity to view and respond to all comments.
For Reviewers
We rely on the generosity of our reviewers. If you are asked to review a manuscript, but are unable to do so, please support The Sociological Quarterly by providing the names of alternate reviewers. Reviewers will be given full instructions and access to the paper here.
Additional Help for Authors and Reviewers
- If, at any point, you have problems with the Manuscript Central computer system, please email us and we will upload your review or manuscript.
- Each page of the Manuscript Central website has a red “Get Help Now” icon connecting directly to the online support system.
- Telephone support is available through the US ScholarOne support office 3:00am-8:30pm EST, 5 days a week at: (434) 817-2040.
- For further guidance, please consult the “Instructions to Contributors,” which are located at the back of every TSQ issue, or the “Author Guidelines,” which can be found on the journal’s web page.
If you do not have Internet access or cannot submit online, the Editorial Office will help with online submissions. Please contact the Editorial Office, by telephone, (785) 864-4442; or by e-mail.
We hope that authors and reviewers will find that Manuscript Central makes their lives easier, leading to rapid decision-making and ensuring that the time from submission to publication is as short as possible.
